MOREMI - KHWAI CONCESSION

Nestled adjacent to the north-eastern border of the Moremi Game Reserve, the Khwai Concession is mainly located on the banks of the Khwai River, spread across 180,000 hectares of land.

With the river being the only source of water for miles, it acts like a magnet for wildlife, all of which are drawn to drink from it, making terrific game viewing. Sightings include roan and sable antelope which are relatively rare, elephant, kudu, tsessebe, wildebeest, zebra, lion, spotted hyena, African wild dog and leopard. This area also boasts an abundance of birdlife where you might see verreaux's eagle owl, Senegal coucals and long toed lapwings.

. The Khwai Concession is a large area dominated by mopane forests. The area is also made up of sweeping grasslands and floodplains. The floodplains are flooded most of the year and there are lagoons covered in blue and white water lilies. The riverine woodland also consists of camel thorn, knob thorn, apple leaf and great stands of Leadwood trees.

With the sound of birdsong and the serenity of the river, a mokoro trip has been described as the ultimate experience in Botswana.
